Apheleia Living is born from a lifetime addiction of organising, tidying up and having bloody good ideas about where to put and use stuff! I have put these systems in place in my own life forever. It’s a natural process. It just is. I have already helped lots of people and organisations sort themselves out (this is my fun!) which has led to my being advised that this is truly what I should be doing with my life! These skills do not come naturally to others, something I wasn’t aware of. It does make sense. I can’t boil an egg or sew on a button… I am driven by wanting to live life simply, building and putting routines into place that save time and effort. Creating and developing ideas to make my world a simpler place. Reducing time and energy in accomplishing tasks. Removing niggles and negativity. Removing blocks to your flow of peace. Freeing your mind and time to use in a way that brings peace and contentment.

I want to help you to do the same with your space. I would like to show you how to make your life simpler, to calm your mind, to give you more time. We can all enjoy a simpler, more peaceful life filled only with what and who is important.

I hate to waste anything, it physically hurts. I recycle, reuse, repurpose everything. There are lots of ways to not waste – give to a new home that would use it, suggest a use to someone else. This is normally less easy than just chucking the item out but, it just makes me feel better, it’s what I have to do.

Getting to this point

I have been thinking about Apheleia Living for quite some time…

Ἀφέλεια

Apheleia was the greek goddess, spirit and personification of ease, simplicity and primitivity in the good sense, “the good old days”. According to Eustathius, she had an altar at the Acropolis of Athens and was honoured as a nurse of Athena. She is a lady after my own heart and she was honoured as a nurse – she fixed things.

Rules to live by…

Keep things of the same type together

To start to minimise your belongings you have to see how much of each category you have

Keep things that are used together stored together

Less steps, less time

Everything has a natural home. You always know where your teaspoons are, don’t you?

Take post out of it’s envelope or packaging

Label, label, label

Keep one note book of where things are, what is in each box

Spreadsheets

Personal treasures – valuable only to you

Simple wardrobe

Simple diet

Don’t do something that is totally out of your comfort zone or natural character

Only touch something once… I will explain!

Walk yourself around your home and truly notice what causes you to sigh – an unclear doorway, having to plug something in to use it, having to move one thing to get to another
